私たちはこんな自然の風景を楽しんでいます。
We enjoy this scenery of nature.

しかし自然は時として、ある意味人間には計り知れない行動をします。
But nature sometimes acts in a way we cannot understand.

御嶽山で亡くなられた方々に慎んでお悔やみを申し上げますとともに、けがをされた方々のご回復をお祈りいたします。

最後の言葉が鳴り響く。沈黙の息遣いのみが聞こえる。
The last word sounds. Only the breath of silence is audible.

やがてその時がやってくる。太鼓の振動を通し、聴衆にエネルギーが伝わる。
Then comes the moment when, through the vibrations of the taiko, energy reaches the listener.

山からこだまする太鼓の響きが神秘的なリズムを醸し出す。
The echo from the mountains makes the rhythmic even more mystical.


  

私たちは長野の山中で寒い冬に備えたいと思っています。今日はおでんを作りました。
We want to be prepared for a next cold winter in the mountains in Nagano. Today we made Oden.

出汁はかつお節と昆布でとりました。うまみを最大に引き出すため、私たちはかつお節削り器を使っています。
Dashi was made from katsuobushi and konbu. To have the best umami we use katsuobushi kezuriki *.

かつお節と昆布の出汁は風味を最大限引き出すため、一晩おきます。
Katsuobushi/konbu dashi is left overnight to get the most flavor.

私たちは伝統的な方法で最高の日本食を作るために、様々な試みをします。
We are trying to make the best of Japanese food in a traditional way.

*) Katsuobushi kezuriki is used to prepare Katsuobushi shavings. Katsuobushi is the filleted bonito which is boiled, dried, smoked, and cured with the mold.
  

この頃スパーマーケットへ行く道すがら、ヘビを見ることがあります。
Lately on our walk to the supermarket, we could see snakes.



地元のご婦人が、長野県民はこの「まむし」を食べると教えてくれました。
Some old lady told us, that people in Nagano eat these " Japanese pit vipers or mamushi ".

長野で、私たちは「いなご」というありえない食材がメニューにあることを経験しました。でも「まむし」はちょっと遠慮しておきます。
In Nagano, we experienced some exceptional ingredients on the menu namely grasshoppers. But, I think I will pass on this menu.
  

歴史は時に退屈だと考えている誰かさん、それは誤りです。
Who thinks that history is boring sometimes, well it is the opposite.



アンティークレースのレクチャーのときには、とても楽しいのです。
When we have a lecture on antique lace, we are having great fun.
  

夏の気温の変化が、体を疲れやすくさせています。
The changing temperature of summer has been tiring for the condition.

祭りは新たな気力を得る良い方法です。
Matsuri is a good way to get new energy.

信州上田ではねぷた祭り開かれました。
In Ueda the Neputa matsuri was held.



祭りに参加することで、人々が笑顔になり、いい気分を家庭に持ち帰ります。
By attending a matsuri, people get a smile on their face and take a good feeling home.



私は機嫌がよくなる、よい方法を発見したと思います。
I think I found the right way to get in the good mood.



  

草津温泉を訪れました。
We visited Kusatsu Hot Spring.

源泉から湧き出したお湯が、木製の樋を流れ下ります。これらの樋は、樹脂を多く含む、厚い松材から作られています。
Hot water from the spring's origin gushes down through wooden channels. These channels are made from thick pinewood, containing large amounts of resin.




湯畑は草津温泉のシンボルです。
Yubatake is the symbol of Kusatsu Hot Spring.




人の手によりお湯の温度を下げるパフォーマンスを見ることができました。この方法により熱湯を風呂の適温まで下げることができるのです。
We could see a performance where the temperature of the water is cooled down by hand. This way, it becomes possible to bath in the water.

この方法でお湯は、その薬効、すなわち抗菌力を失うことはありません。硫黄の独特の匂いがする面白い場所です。
Also the water doesn't lose its medicinal effect, namely the antibacterial power. Interesting place with a peculiar smell of sulfur.
